Some newborn sessions stay with you. Phoenix’s is one of them.

Phoenix came into my studio at eight days old. He was calm, sleepy, and completely at ease from the moment we started. But before we picked up a single prop, his dad Paul told me something that reframed the entire session.

A Name With a Reason Behind It

Paul explained why they chose the name Phoenix:

“Because we endured a pretty long IVF journey and at one point were left to believe that he might not happen. Considering the IVF journey and its hardships, we named him Phoenix for strength after struggle.”

I thought about that the entire session. Every time I looked through the lens at this tiny, peaceful baby, I knew exactly what it had taken to get him here.

The Photo Session

Paul and Che chose blue, beige, and tan for Phoenix’s palette, colors that worked beautifully with his nursery and let his features take center stage. He settled into every pose without a fuss. We captured the details that disappear so fast: curled hands, tiny profile, the way a newborn fits perfectly in their parent’s arms when they have no idea yet how much they are loved.

I watched Paul and Che watch their son during the session. That is its own kind of photograph.

A Note on Booking

Phoenix’s parents booked before he arrived, which meant everything was planned and ready the moment he made his entrance. If you are expecting and considering a newborn session, that is the right time to reach out. The window for newborn photography is the first two weeks of life and it goes faster than you think.
