I often get asked when is the ideal time to photograph newborns and typically, that is between 7-14 days and up to 21 days, ideally. But each person is different, and there is no way to predict the day the baby will be sleepy through out the session.
For example, meet baby Misha, she had to have brain surgery when she was only 2 days old. She spent the first 4 weeks of her life in the hospital and she recover very quickly, such a little warrior. Mom wanted to make sure she still had the beautiful newborn photos. Baby Misha arrived in the studio for her “newborn pictures” when she was 6 weeks old!
Although I prepared mom that we might not get sleepy, unwrapped poses, she loved the sound of the white noise I had and slept through most of her session (check out the Baby Shusher, is amazing at helping babies catch some zzz’s)
I was also able to pose her in props, including bowls and buckets
Big sister was so proud and happy to finally have baby sister home and she was so good with her
Needless to say, mom and dad were thrilled to have these beautiful “newborn pictures” that they will cherish forever!
If you already had a baby and had a challenging start, but still want to document these precious moments, please contact me– I will do my best to capture the most amazing “newborn” photos even if outside the “ideal” time.
