I, an Atlanta newborn photographer with a medical background, feel honored to capture the precious moments of babies who began their lives in the NICU.
Let’s meet Emerie Grace, a NICU graduate. I photographed her at 5 weeks of age, just a few days after coming home. Emerie, who was born 4 weeks premature, underwent multiple surgeries shortly after birth. She underwent successful surgeries to repair her trachea, esophagus, and abdomen, and made a speedy recovery.
Recharda (mom) reached out to me while her baby was in the NICU. She wanted to have newborn pictures taken as soon as Emerie went home from the hospital. We discussed Emerie’s medical condition, any post-surgery restrictions, and the discharge date.
At birth, Emerie weighed approximately 5 lbs. By the time of the photoshoot at 5 weeks old, her weight had increased to almost 7 lbs.
Emerie’s two older brothers were eagerly looking forward to having her home. They were so excited to finally having her home. They will definitely always take great care of her.
Recharda wanted to include her “beads of courage” in the pictures. Mom explained that Emerie received a bead for each procedure, surgery, and blood draw she underwent. These beads are provided by Beads of Courage, INC, an organization aiming to improve the quality of life for children dealing with serious illness, provides these beads. I thought it was a beautiful way to honor the courage and strength required in their journey. Since Emerie spent the first few weeks of life in the hospital, this digital background below was perfect for documenting her first few days.
I felt honored to be entrusted with photographing Emerie, and I am thrilled with how beautifully these photos turned out. Mom will cherish them forever. As a NICU graduate, we made sure to include a photo with her cap and diploma.
Please contact me to capture these fleeting moments and create beautiful baby photos.that will last forever. Remember, it is best to book your photo session a few months before the baby is due to ensure availability. Even for premature babies, they can still be photographed as “newborns” even if they are older than the ideal age. These little ones have experienced so much and deserve to have stunning images that celebrate their life.
