Let me guess. You’ve thought about booking a maternity session, and then talked yourself out of it.
Maybe it was something like: “I’ll do it when I feel better about how I look.” Or “I’m not the type of person who does maternity photos.” Or just a general feeling that this is something other women do, women who are more comfortable in front of a camera, women who look a certain way during pregnancy.
I hear this from almost every client before they book. And I want to be honest with you about it.
Pregnancy Is Not Easy on Your Confidence
You spent years building a career, a reputation, a sense of who you are and how you show up in the world. Then pregnancy changes your body in ways you did not ask for and cannot control. That can be disorienting, especially for women who are used to feeling put-together and in control.
Every pregnancy is different, and the physical changes vary widely from woman to woman.
Add to that the fact that social media is full of women who appear to be glowing through every trimester, and it’s easy to feel like you’re doing pregnancy wrong.
You’re not. You’re just doing it honestly.
What I Actually See in the Studio
After photographing hundreds of women through their pregnancies, I can tell you something that might surprise you: the women who come in most uncertain about how they’ll look are almost always the ones who are most moved by their photos.
Not because I do anything dramatic. But because they’re seeing themselves the way I see them, which is not the way they’ve been looking at themselves in the mirror at home.
A maternity session is a controlled environment. The lighting is designed to flatter. The wardrobe options are chosen specifically for pregnant bodies. I direct every pose, so you’re never standing there unsure of what to do with your hands. And I work slowly and without pressure, so there’s no rush to get through it.
You can see what that looks like here.
You don’t have to arrive feeling confident. That’s not a requirement. You just have to show up.

What About the Parts You’re Self-Conscious About
This is where I’d rather be direct than reassuring in a vague way.
If you’ve gained more weight than you expected, I know how to work with that. If you’re feeling puffy or swollen, lighting and posing handle more than you’d think. If you have stretch marks and you’re not sure how you feel about them being visible, that’s a conversation we can have before the session. Nothing about your photos has to include anything you’re not comfortable with.
I’ve worked with women across every body type, every skin tone, every variation of what pregnancy looks like. There is no version of you that would walk into my studio and be difficult to photograph. That’s not a sales line. It’s just what ten years of doing this looks like.

The Thing Nobody Tells You
Most women who skip their maternity session because they didn’t feel ready end up regretting it. Not all of them, but most.
Because what they realize later is that they weren’t really uncomfortable with how they looked. They were uncomfortable with being seen. And that feeling doesn’t go away just because the pregnancy does.
If you’re still on the fence about whether a session is worth it, this might help.
The women who push through that discomfort and book the session almost universally tell me afterward that they’re glad they did. Not because the photos are perfect, but because they have something that proves they were there, that they went through this, that it was real.

If You’re On the Fence
You don’t have to have it all figured out before you reach out. A lot of my clients contact me when they’re still unsure, and we just talk through it. I’ll tell you what the session involves, what the wardrobe options look like, and what we can do to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
If confidence is what’s been holding you back, let’s talk before you run out of time.
But if there’s a part of you that wants these photos and you’re letting uncertainty talk you out of it, I’d encourage you to reach out before you run out of time. The window for maternity photos is shorter than most people realize.
If you’re also wondering what a session costs and what’s included, start here.
